Molly Lemon – Wood Engraver

Printing from the carved wood block

Molly Lemon is a printmaker who specialises in wood engraving. This technique has a rich history and was invented in the 18th century to go along side movable type on conventional printing presses. This meant illustrated books were more widely available and at a affordable price.

Molly has always loved the immediacy of printmaking, the feeling of excitement and anticipation when she peels back the first proof of a block never goes away. Printed in small editions these miniature artworks depict little scenes you’ll want to step into.

Molly engraves onto English box wood and lemonwood using traditional tools to create detailed designs inspired by wildlife and the natural landscapes surrounding her. The block is then inked up and printed using her 150 year old Albion press.
