Clare Walsh – Textile Maker

Clare is a textile designer, maker and workshop tutor. She works from her home studio in Tetbury, Glos. and the Cotswold countryside and gardens inspire her work. With a background in education and a lifetime love of textiles and plants Clare combines all three when she teaches workshops and creates her printed textiles designs. She loves the variety of leaf shape, texture and detail and is a regular visitor to Westonbirt arboretum. She use leaves,  grasses and flowers to print directly onto fabric using the heat press and  design screens based on wild flowers, grasses and herbs for her printed fabrics. The fabrics are used for linings, artwork, garments and interior accessories and she enjoys working on special commissions creating one off items, hand made in her studio.

Clare’s collection of authentic Indian woodblocks (many of which were bought travelling in India), are used to print onto linen and cotton for cushions, bags and accessories and she also uses them to print garments and cross back aprons. Clare enjoys sharing her enthusiasm and knowledge of Indian block printing and printed textiles in courses and workshops, talks and demonstrations and welcomes new enquiries.
