The Cotswold Craftsmen Gallery in Market Street, Nailsworth, was established in April 2005. For the previous 35 years, the Cotswold Craftsmen group had only come together to show their work at around 8/9 events a year. The gallery became the first permanent home for the group, providing members with the opportunity to exhibit their work for sale all year round. It has also allowed members to develop closer relationships with their fellow members and have a deeper understanding of each other’s crafts.
The gallery provides the public with a greater confidence to purchase work from the makers, knowing that they have an established base where their work can often be seen and where makers can be easily contacted for enquiries and commissions.
The gallery has also made the group more accessible to new members which has served to increase the membership of the group creating an even greater diversity of crafts, traditional and contemporary, at the gallery and at our shows.
Details about joining the group can be found on our ‘join us’ page. |

The upstairs gallery is also available occasionally for non-members to book which gives other local artists an opportunity to show their work at an established gallery and gives the public the opportunity to view an even wider range of work.

The gallery is always manned by the makers that have their work on show, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with no pressure to buy. Members are happy for visitors to browse and to chat about their work and that of other makers. Details of dates and times when each member will be ‘on duty’ are displayed at the gallery and listings of when members are booked in can be found on the website so visitors can plan a trip especially to meet the maker of their choice and quite often see work in progress.
The gallery now has two exhibition areas –
UPSTAIRS GALLERY
Regular visitors to the gallery will know that at Christmas we display work for sale from all our members that have shown regularly in the gallery throughout the year.
Well, this year, Christmas has come early! We have now changed from showing 4/5 members work changing fortnightly to filling the gallery with a fabulous selection of work from 11 of our familiar members. We have still kept some space for changing displays of work from one other member.
So now is a great time to call in,see what's new and find the gallery brimming with work to inspire you with gift ideas for others - or yourself!
See below for details of which members are now at the gallery. |

Throughout December and January, the gallery hosts a special exhibition showing work from all the members that have exhibited throughout the year. Generally around 10/15 members take part in this show filling the gallery with an even wider range of work to inspire you with gifts ideas for others – or for yourself!
DOWNSTAIRS GALLERY
In 2008, the gallery was extended to include a new downstairs gallery where the work of landscape artist Nick Handover is permanently on display for sale.
From January 2011, we will be starting a programme of four week exhibitions of non-members work downstairs alongside the permanent collection.
Any group or artist is welcome to apply to show downstairs so the coming year promises to hold a wide and varied selection of work.

Just For The Present
An exhibition of current work
by Jane Vernon.
Since Jane's last exhibition at the Cotswold Craftsmen Gallery in 2011 there have been exciting new additions to the variety of work she makes. Nearly forty years on, Jane has returned to her roots in fashion, which she studied at college, and is now making brightly coloured silk scarves. These are shown alongside her decorative textiles and in this exhibition Jane is also showing several new silk canvasses for the first time. Watch out for the cheeky lizards!
Jane will be showing a selection of her pottery too, and as well as some of her favourite designs in tableware will be including pieces from her new range of bowls and mugs individually decorated with slips, underglazes and coloured and precious metal lustres.
In case you're buying for others, Jane also has a great selection of greetings cards to choose from to go with the gift, from original silk-painted cards to fridge-magnet cards. |
